Our Journey

Our Journey

The Beginnings
The seed that was sown by the three pioneers Fr Stany Coelho SJ, Fr Ligoury Castelino SJ and Fr Raymond D’Souza SJ in the Naga Hills 50 years ago has grown into a mighty tree covering the five states of the North East, namely, Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. We are also grateful to the Ranchi Province for taking care of the people of the Upper Assam belt, the Darjeeling Province for taking care of Mizoram and the Kerala Province for taking care of Tripura. Today Kohima Jesuit Region consists of 164 Jesuits, including more than a hundred in formation.

ARUNACHAL

The Jesuits started working in Arunachal Pradesh in the year 1996 under the leadership of Fr. Paul Coelho...

ASSAM

When Kohima became a Region in 1995, the Jesuits consciously chose to work among the adivasis working in the tea gardens of Assam...

MANIPUR

The Jesuits were invited by the Archbishop of Imphal in Manipur to take up St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Bishnupur in the year 1985...

MEGHALAYA

In the year 1998, the Kohima Jesuits started their novitiate in a house belonging to the Archdiocese of Shillong in the town of Shillong in Meghalaya...

MIZORAM

The Kerala Jesuits worked in Mizoram in the early 70s but could not continue because of some difficulties...
